Look what arrived today!

I'm deep in sewing mode right now, hats, bohemian/cosplay style belts, tabbards.Tabbards, not a very sexy word but I just need the pattern to make something sexy and I don't know what else to call them. Think, long vests. Vestments? No, no, no. They kicked me out of a Catholic school when I was five. What do I know of vestements or sacrements or whatnot. (True story!)

So now I'm going to go back to sewing, but not before leaving you with some of the best earworms of the 1990s:

TV and Tchotchkes

Watched... 

We finally watched Call Me by Your Name. We liked it. Timothee Chalamet really gave that peach what for!

How did this movie come out in 2017 and we didn't get spoiler-ed? We must be really good at living under a socially ambiguous rock! It's weird to think of Armie Hammer being blacklisted from Hollywood for being a self-confessed Cannibal. We've been seeing Timothee Chalamet in so many things lately, but we're really looking forward to the second Dune movie coming out later this year.

Like many other people we're disappointed that Netflix has canceled the show 1899 after one season. Everything about it was great. You can't tell from the trailer but there is a queer couple in the cast of main characters. Like other say in the comments on this trailer (which I hope you can see) Is that the actors came from several different countries and spoke their native languages as they would have if you were taking a voyage of that era. Not all of the characters can speak English, some of them have to find another common language to understand each other, like French or German or they have to rely on someone who can translate for them.

 

Hot Skull was another interesting show we watched also on Netflix. This is a Turkish production, and we'll have to wait and see if Netflix will give us a second season or not. It's not the best show ever, but the premise is really interesting. People get infected by a viral language pathogen, that causes nonsensical jabbering. The infected are called Jabberers. There is no queer representation, and I'm a bit bothered that the leading man is so stereotypically much older than his love interest.

We've watched a bunch of other stuff that has only been "meh" at best.

Now she sits on this shelf watching me type on the computer.

Beside her is one of my old art projects, "Snail Garden Party" circa 2007. If you're Mago or Ms Scarlet this might look familiar to you. I shared it on my very first blog all those years ago.

- The hanging wooden paddle is called a "Hornbook." During my son's 5th grade class on American Colonialism, I taught the section on Calligraphy using the hornbooks with turkey feather quill pens and small inkpots.  

-The bead and shell necklaces are from Barbados given to me by my dad when I was fifteen.

-Fabric Torc Necklaces. I was obsessively thinking about Celtic Torc necklaces a few years ago. I like them, but I don't plan to take up metalworking anytime soon, so I came up with these fabric torcs. What do you think? Should I open my own Etsy shop? 

They have magnetic clasps for easy on/off.

My goal during this holiday break is to finish a bunch of books and make use of this giant hoard of fabric taking over my office. I've come to the conclusion that I like hoarding fabric and thinking about sewing more than I actually like doing it. So, if I don't make some steady headway in making use of all this fabric, then I should start giving it away.

I belong to a Facebook group called "Buy Nothing" where neighbors gift, borrow and exchange free items. It saves a lot of money for all of us and sometimes you get a good laugh. Where some guy wanting to get rid of a creepy doll his mother gave him finds that another neighbor is a creepy doll collector. Perfect! The group is really a lot of fun and one of the few reasons worth having a Facebook account for. Aside from that, I belong to a bunch of groups about nature, plants, bugs, fae propaganda, Steampunk, "weird" art, and Cosplay.
